Lopez Island, Washington

Candace and Ben invited us to spend the first weekend of Fall 2023 with them at his employer's beach house on Lopez Island, Washington. Lopez Island is in an archipelago called the San Juan Islands. The archipelago lies between the U.S. state of Washington and Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The only way to get to the island is by ferry.

While we were there, we went shopping at the dump. To minimize the amount of refuse that has to be removed from the island, the government operates a Take It Or Leave It (TIOLI) exchange for gently used items that are still in working condition but are no longer wanted. You can find almost anything there. I literally found kitchen sinks.

Besides the usual beach activities, we took a nature walk with the twins. We stopped near a ring of felled trees that looked like they might be a fairy ring so Candace and the twins could build a fairy house. We returned the next day to see if the fairies had visited overnight. We were surprised to find they did visit, and they left chocolates and stikers for the twins as a sign of their appreciation.
