Helen, Georgia

We traveled to Helen, Georgia to use and expiring travel credit. Helen is now a very commerialized city similar to Gatlinburg and Niagra Falls, but there are some very nice places to visit outside of the city.

Anna Ruby Falls

Anna Ruby Falls is located near Unicoi State Park in White County near Helen, Georgia. The waterfall is accessible via a half mile paved trail from a public use area. The Anna Ruby Falls Trail is designated a National Recreation Trail in Georgia.

Helen to Hardman Heritage Trail

This one mile trail follows the Chattahoochee River from Hardman Farm State Historic Site to Alpine Helen. Learn about native plants and animals, Helen's heritage and the influences that have made this area attractive to people for over one thousand years.

Helton Creek Falls

Helton Creek Falls cascades in a set of two waterfalls, sliding down in tendrils through a beautiful, hemlock-filled creek valley. The trail to these gorgeous waterfalls isn't a long hike, but it is a bit treacherous. You access the trailhead from a winding dirt and gravel road that crosses two streams.

Miscellaneous

We visited several wineries for tastings during our visit. We also found the glassblowing shop that my father remembered from his visit. The shop has been in this location since the current owner's grandfather purchased it from a German named Fritz. Fritz' shop was across the street, and that's the shop my father remembers.
